Parents are often surprised that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu starts at age four in our academy. What could a four-year-old possibly learn? More than you would think — just not the way adults learn it.
Classes for our youngest students are built around movement and games. Shrimping becomes a race, breakfalls become a game, and balance drills become challenges. Beneath the fun, children are learning fundamental positions, how to move their bodies on the ground, and how to fall safely — skills that protect them on playgrounds long before they protect them anywhere else.
Just as important are the invisible lessons: listening to an instructor, taking turns, being a good partner, and staying calm when a game does not go their way. Our instructors have decades of combined experience working with children, and the class is engineered to be super fun and safe above all.
By the time these students move up to the older kids' class, they have years of mat awareness that cannot be fast-tracked. Starting early is not about creating tiny fighters — it is about giving kids a head start on coordination, confidence and comfort in their own bodies.
